FAQs
What is the difference between the salt you use and other salts?
We use only natural grey sea salt from the Guerande region of France. It is still wet, and has not been refined in any way. We have not found any other salt blends which offer a wet sea salt.
Why use a wet sea salt?
Salt is a natural preservative. All the herbs and spices which we blend with the wet salt are more evenly absorbed, giving a high concentration of flavour in each grain. You can therefore use a lesser quantity to achieve the same amount of flavour.
Aren’t all salts the same?
No. The natural grey sea salt which we use contains no additives or chemicals. It is completely natural, and has a long list of essential minerals and trace elements.
Isn’t salt bad for you?
There is no straightforward answer to this. Too much salt is certainly bad for you, and can affect your health. However, the same can be said for too little. Salt is an essential requirement – we simply cannot live without it.
I am Vegetarian – can I use all your salts?
Yes. All our salts are suitable for vegetarians, vegans, and coeliacs. Even the 'Chicken' salt!
How do I use your salts?
In whatever way you wish! For best results, though, we suggest use them as a finishing salt – just sprinkle a few grains on your freshly cooked (unsalted) food, for a taste and texture sensation. Use any blend on any food – they are very versatile.
How long will your salts stay fresh?
We put a two year use by date on all our salt blends. However, we have kept salts for much longer than this, as an experiment to see just how long they will keep – we are six years down the line on some of our experiments – and they are still as good, although maybe not quite as moist!
Our salt supplier places a five-year use-by date on the salts, and when we buy ours, they supply us with stocks with the longest possible shelf-life.
Can I purchase in bulk quantities, for repackaging under my own brand name?
We are pleased to offer bulk purchase to trade customers in 10kg bags. Please contact us for further information.
Do you sell herbs and spices?
Yes, any herb or spice which we use in our blends is available for purchase. Although these are not yet featured on our Shop, this is a project which is in the course of preparation, and should be visible soon. If, in the meantime, you wish to enquire about purchasing herbs and spices, then please contact us for information, availibility and prices.
